Mother of the Bride / Mother of the Groom / Wedding Dress Wholesale History

Daymor mother of the bride wholesale dress

Today, the finest mother of the bride and mother of the groom wholesale dresses can be found at Blake and Company. Blake and Company specializes in wholesale mother of the bride dresses that offer many options to the customer.

Did you ever stop to think about where the wedding dress came from and the story surrounding it?  How long do you think women have been wearing the traditional white wedding dresses that we know of today?  For that matter, when did mother of the bride and mother of the groom dresses come into fashion?  Did you know that the traditional wedding dress of today has been in production for less than 100 years?

While it is true that brides have always wanted to look special on their wedding day, the wedding dress carried more importance than it does today.  The wedding dress had more to do with social status and political connections.  In the past, a wedding dress was directly linked to how a couple was seen socially.  More elaborate materials meant greater status.  Also, white was not the most common color choice.  Color and design depended on the latest fashions of that particular time.

Brides who came from families with low socio-economic status would wear the nicest dress that they owned or would borrow something from within the family.  Middle class brides would be able to have a dress custom made for the wedding.  More elaborate creations were chosen by the wealthy upper class.

The white wedding dress became popular at the start of the 1900’s .  Most wedding gowns were custom made by individual dress makers.  There were no wedding dress wholesalers or mother of the bride dress wholesalers around at that time.  In the 1940’s brides began to delve into the traditional Victorian trend for wedding apparel that is closest to the brides’ dresses of today.  It was at this time that department stores like Macy’s began carrying bridal gowns, mother of the bride dresses and other special occasion dresses.  Once department stores began carrying mother of the bride dresses and special occasion dresses, it was only a matter of time before the wholesale dress industry saw an opportunity and ran with it.

Mother of the Bride, Hillary Clinton’s Dress Makes a Statement

Mother of the Bride, Hillary Clinton, wore a gorgeous Italian gown with floral detailing by Oscar de la Renta for her daughter Chelsea’s wedding.  The Mother of the Bride design was modern and unique in its shoulder coverage.  Hillary Clinton showed that a Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom need not wear the usual black, navy or champagne as she selected a bright raspberry hue.  Mother of the Brides and Mother of the Grooms should be able to feel confident in pinks, purples and even tasteful reds.

Mother of the Bride Hillary Clinton bid farewell to her standard Washington DC styled pantsuits and donned this glamorous Mother of the Bride gown instead. Secretary of State Clinton’s magenta princess-style gown came complete with an exquisite floral design.

Mother of the Bride, Mother of the Groom

Every mother of the bride wants to look her best at her daughter's wedding.

It’s safe to say that every mother of the bride wants to look her best at her daughter’s wedding.  A stunning Mother of the Bride dress is very important because as the mother of the bride, everyone will be looking at what you are wearing.

Shopping for mother of the bride dresses can be a bit stressful. Read on to find out some advice to help you shop for mother of the bride dresses that are sure to impress.

First, it is important for the mother of the bride to accept her body for what it is and to work with it.  While accentuating the positives, be sure to remember that real women don’t all look like models on magazine covers.  It’s not fair to compare yourself to a runway model – instead wear something that suits you and your body type.

It is a good idea for a mother of the bride to consciously select the physical features she would like to bring attention to and which she would prefer to downplay.

Petite mothers of the bride should choose a dress that makes the torso or legs look longer.  It is a good idea to choose a mother of the bride dress that has clean lines without a lot of excess fabric.

Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom Dresses at Blake and Company

Blake and Company NYC wholesale dress showroom

Mother of the Bride dresses from the wholesale dress showroom of Blake and Company offer designs that keep in step with the whole notion that the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom should blend in

So, you’re planning a wedding?  After choosing a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses – brides usually start working on booking a venue, flowers, wedding music, photography, etc… but there is still more to do in the way of dresses – don’t forget the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom.  If a bride leaves it up to the Mother of the Bride and the Mother of the Groom to choose their own dresses, there may be potential problems.

It is doubtful that any Mother of the Bride would be crazy enough to actually wear white – nobody should wear white except for the bride – there are still plenty of things to consider when choosing a Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom dress.

As mentioned in a previous Blake and Company blog entry, the main thing to remember is that a Mother of the Bride and a Mother of the Groom need to blend in.  Colors and designs should be chosen with this cardinal rule in mind.

Mother of the Bride dresses from the wholesale dress showroom of Blake and Company offer designs that keep in step with the whole notion that the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom should blend in.  However, there is a difference between blending in and fading out.  It is important that a Mother of the Bride dress doesn’t upstage or clash with the wedding gown, the bridal party of the Mother of the Groom.  But, its also important that the Mother of the Bride dress has a look of elegance, style and sophistication.

What Color Should the Mother of the Groom Wear?

Mother of the Groom DressesWhen choosing a mother of the bride or mother of the groom dress, one should consider the color.  Do you think that it is a good idea for the mother of the groom to wear the same color as the mother of the bride so that they match?

As a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to wear something that coordinates with the wedding colors. However, it is important for the mother of the groom to blend in.  Therefore, it is not a good idea for the mother of the groom to match the same color of the mother of the bride.  Instead it is a better idea for the mother of the groom to wear a complementary color to the mother of the bride; but not the same color.

In addition, a mother of the groom must think about how the wedding photos will look.  Does the mother of the groom want to stand out? – hopefully not…

It is a good idea if everyone wears colors within the same hues or colors that are considered complementary. For example, it is not a good choice for a mother of the groom to wear a dark color dress to the wedding if the wedding colors are light or if the mother of the bride is wearing a light colored dress.

Also, if the wedding colors contain deep fall shades, it is best not for the mother of the groom to blend in rather than dress is a pastel color.

When thinking about dressing a mother of the bride or mother of the groom, it is important to keep one word in mind – blend.  If a mother of the groom does not coordinate with the wedding colors, then it will be the first thing that everyone notices in the wedding pictures and it would probably get the mother of the groom off to a bad start with her son’s new wife.

The phone dress is still being tested by telecommunications companies and they are projected to be released in the Spring of 2011

The M-dress, as it is called is CuteCircuit’s latest high-tech, high-fashion hybrid!  The person wearing the dress can take calls by simply lifting her wrist to her ear. The phone’s SIM card easily plugs into the label and the antenna is pre-sewn into the dress’ hem.

How many times have you been at a social event and haven’t been able to receive an important call because your cellular phone is in your purse?  Now, you can party with the confidence to know that you won’t miss a phone call at the next special occasion because your dress is also a mobile phone!

We haven’t received word that any of the top occasion dress designers such as Damianou, Daymor, Ideas by Barbara, SIA SIA, Scaravelli, JSS Knitwear, Ann Balon or VM by Mori Lee have any plans to install cellular phones, GPS, laptops or DVD players into their occasion dresses just yet… But if they do, you can be sure that Blake and Company will be the first to carry them in our New York City Wholesale Dress Showroom
