A previous Blake & Company blog reported that October 10^th, 2010 would be a big wedding day – and it certainly was! 10-10-10 saw a huge rise in weddings as more than 33,000 couples registered for the date at the online wedding site The Knot. That’s a whole lot of mother of the bride dresses, mother of the groom dresses and special occasion dresses.

On a typical Sunday, The Knot has about 5,000 weddings registered. 10-10-10 showed an increase of almost 600% in the number of mother of the bride dresses!

There were plenty of celebrities who chose 10-10-10 to seal their nuptials – Crystal Bowersox of American Idol fame married fellow musician Brian Walker. Bowersox wore a eco-friendly organic, hemp and cotton dress. I wonder if the mother of the bride dress was also eco-friendly?

Brothers & Sisters star Dave Annable and actress Odette Yustman were also married on the once in a millennium date. Odette looked gorgeous in her gown (pictured above) as I’m sure the mother of the bride did as well.

Alexa Vega, star of the Spy Kids movies, exchanged vows with Sean Covel, Napoleon Dynamite producer. Spy Kids Director Robert Rodriguez walked Vega down the aisle as she looked stunning in her gown. Vega’s mom, Gina Rue – a model was surely dresses to kill in an amazing mother of the bride dress.

In addition approximately 200 weddings were performed at one very popular wedding chapel in Las Vegas! What Color Should The Mother of the Bride Wear?

When it comes to Mother of the Bride dresses, the most commonly asked question asked by a Mother of the Bride is “What color dress should I wear?” Selecting the right color can be a daunting experience.

There are several items that must be examined in order to determine what colors are appropriate for a mother of the bride dress.

What time of year is the wedding? How formal is the event? What color are the bridesmaids dresses? What are the colors of the wedding flowers? What is your personal taste? The answers to these questions must all be taken into consideration before the mother of the bride and mother of the groom can be confident that they are choosing a color that works for the particular situation.

Traditional wedding etiquette stipulates that the mother of the bride dress should not be white. With that in mind – every other color is a possibility. As mentioned in a previous Blake and Company blog entry, black can be an excellent choice – especially for a black and white themed wedding. A red mother of the bride dress can be striking in the fall and winter.

The best route is to coordinate the mother of the bride dress with the bridesmaid dresses. The color doesn’t have to be a perfect match, but better to come close than the clash. This style is a classy way to coordinate and a mother of the bride can never go wrong with this strategy.

A more daring idea that can be a hit if it is done right is for the mother of the bride to contrast with the bridesmaids. To select the complementary color may be risky, but if done right – can be a homerun!

However, the best advice is to take the bride with you for a second opinion! This way, you are playing it safe, so that if anything goes wrong – the mother of the bride is not to blame.

Mother of the Bride wedding humor is upon us as the Bridal Couture Event of the Year is about to hit New York City. Be sure to visit Blake and Company’s wholesale mother of the bride and special occasion dress showroom.

Here’s the joke:

A beautiful young bride was excited as her wedding day was fast approaching. She was flying high and nothing was going to burst her bubble – especially not her parents’ nasty divorce.

Her mother had discovered the perfect mother of the bride dress to wear for the special occasion. Her mother was going to be the best dressed mother of the bride in the history of mother of the bride dresses!

However, a week before the wedding, the bride found out that her father’s hot new young wife had purchased the same exact dress as her mother.

What would you do? Well, the young bride calmly explained the whole situation and politely asked her father’s new young wife to pick out a different special occasion dress.

The young wife refused to get a different dress and demanded that the mother of the bride change her dress instead.

The bride didn’t know what to do, so she turned to her mother for advice. Her mother told her not to worry about it, that she would just choose another dress.

Her daughter was thrilled and together they went shopping for a new dress and they found one that was gorgeous!

After purchasing the dress, which was kind of expensive, the daughter asked her mother if she needed the receipt to return the original dress. The mother told the daughter that she decided to keep both dresses.

The daughter was surprised and asked the mom what occasion would she be able to wear such a fancy dress to.

The mother just smiled and told her that she had the perfect occasion to wear the original dress to – the rehearsal dinner, the night before the wedding!

It seems that the mother of the bride got the last laugh.

The Perfect Wedding Date 10/10/10

Brides and grooms in large numbers are looking forward to Sunday for what will surely be one of the busiest days in this year’s wedding calendar! What’s so special about October 10, 2010? Some couples are hoping that the date will bring them luck because the date when abbreviated comes out to 10/10/10. The number 10 is considered lucky, so to have three 10’s in the date is a recipe for success – it all adds up to the ‘perfect day’.
