We knew that 2011 would be a big year for celebrity weddings and special occasion dresses… and 2011 began on Saturday, January 1^st with the first celebrity wedding of the year! That’s right, Shania Twain got things started off on January 1^st 2011 as the country star tied the knot with Swiss Nestle executive Frederic Thiebaud. But it is doubtful that anyone was drinking hot chocolate as the wedding was held in sunny Puerto Rico (no passport was necessary).

Besides the wedding dress, the wedding had its share of quality special occasion dresses. While there were just 40 of their closest family and friends, there were not too many special occasion dresses on hand – but the quality of those being worn by the guests in attendance must’ve been spectacular.

Mother of the Brides Celebrate in Style in 2010

As we look forward to 2011 and all of the celebrity weddings, mother of bride dresses and special occasion dresses, we also look back at 2010. Of all the Mother of the Bride dresses in 2010, Hillary Clinton wore the most famous of all mother of the bride dresses of the year. But, there were plenty other mother of the bride dresses out there in 2010.

Here are the top 10 celebrity weddings of 2010:

1. While Democrats and Republicans don’t always see eye to eye, everyone agrees that Hillary Clinton’s mother of the bride dress stole the show this year. The Mother of the Bride, Clinton wore a gorgeous Italian gown with floral detailing by Oscar de la Renta. The Mother of the Bride dress design was modern and unique in its shoulder coverage. Hillary Clinton showed that a Mother of the Bride can be bold as she donned a bright raspberry colored mother of the bride dress.

2. Supermodel Coco Rocha’s wedding to interior designer James Conran must have brought out a plethora of special occasion dresses. The guest list no doubt included a long list of beauties from Rocha’s modeling agency. Her mother, Juanita, is a flight attendant and must have looked gorgeous in her mother of the bride dress.

3. Hilary Duff’s wedding to pro hockey player Mike Comrie was a huge event. Her mom, Susan Colleen surely looked wonderful in her mother of the bride dress. The event was reported packed with plenty of celebrities in extravagant special occasion dresses.

4. American Idol star and country singer Carrie Underwood also married a pro hockey player – Mike Fisher. Carole Underwood, an elementary school teacher, most likely chose a traditional mother of the bride dress.

5. Siren Megan Fox’s wedding to 90210 star Brian Austin Green was super-low key. The only witness at their beach wedding ceremony was Green’s 8 year old son from a previous marriage. No word on whether or not the mother of the bride even made it to the wedding ceremony or not. In fact, there were more security guards than guests at the reception so special occasion dresses were probably at a minimum.

6. Nicole Richie’s wedding to Joel Madden was an event complete with a live elephant. One can only imagine what the mother of the bride dress looked like and how many amazing special occasion dresses were present.

7. “The Bachelor” Jason Mesnick wed winning contestant Molly Malaney – and the wedding was aired on television. The mother of the bride dress was stunning and there were plenty of special occasion dresses on board for the gala event.

8. Grammy award winning artist Alicia Keys wedding to music producer Swizz Beatz was a site to be seen as the two tied the knot at a destination wedding in the Mediterranean. No doubt the mother of the bride was decked out in a gorgeous mother of the bride dress. Guests were outfitted in the latest style special occasion dresses of the season!

9. VH1 host La La Vazquez wedding to NBA pro Carmelo Anthony was aired on a special five-part VH1 series “La La’s Full Court Wedding”. Mother of the bride was dresses in the latest fashions as were the dozens of guests wearing fashionable special occasion dresses.

10. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden’s bridal ensemble included a veil worn by her mother on her wedding day. The royal wedding to Daniel Westling was aired on live television and featured a mother of the bride dress that was fit for a Queen – literally! The number of special occasion dresses was too much to count.

2011 should be a huge year for celebrity weddings with Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton lined up to take honors of celebrity wedding of the year!

When it comes to Celebrity Weddings, it’s not always easy to know by the name of the mother of the bride or the mother of the groom who the celebrity couple is. Try this one: Mother of the Bride, Mary Hudson and Mother of the Groom Barbara Brand. Do you know who the celebrity couple is? If you guessed Singer Katy Perry and comedian Russell Brand – then you are correct. Were you thinking Kate Hudson? Hope not – besides she’s not married and her mom is Goldie Hawn.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry tied the not in India as they had a Hindu wedding. I wonder what the mother of the bride dress and mother of the groom dress looked like. The style of mother of the bride dress and mother of the groom dress have not been seen in any wedding photos as of yet – but I wonder if they have an Indian flair or if they were more traditional.

The ceremony was described as very private and spiritual, but the wedding reception was described as a bit more flamboyant as the bride and groom sat in ornate golden thrones while fire eaters, snake charmers and singers and musicians performed.

The October 23^rd, 2010 wedding attracted some celebrity guests such as British comedians David Baddiel and David Williams and British musician Noel Gallagher.

Rihanna and Taylor Swift also topped the list of celebrities in attendance. One can only wonder what style of special occasion dress Rihanna was decked out in. Taylor Swift must’ve looked elegant in her choice of special occasion dress.

Special Occasion Dress Wholesaler Opportunity for 2011…

A previous Blake & Company blog reported that October 10^th, 2010 would be a big wedding day – and it certainly was! 10-10-10 saw a huge rise in weddings as more than 33,000 couples registered for the date at the online wedding site The Knot. That’s a whole lot of mother of the bride dresses, mother of the groom dresses and special occasion dresses.

On a typical Sunday, The Knot has about 5,000 weddings registered. 10-10-10 showed an increase of almost 600% in the number of mother of the bride dresses!

There were plenty of celebrities who chose 10-10-10 to seal their nuptials – Crystal Bowersox of American Idol fame married fellow musician Brian Walker. Bowersox wore a eco-friendly organic, hemp and cotton dress. I wonder if the mother of the bride dress was also eco-friendly?

Brothers & Sisters star Dave Annable and actress Odette Yustman were also married on the once in a millennium date. Odette looked gorgeous in her gown (pictured above) as I’m sure the mother of the bride did as well.

Alexa Vega, star of the Spy Kids movies, exchanged vows with Sean Covel, Napoleon Dynamite producer. Spy Kids Director Robert Rodriguez walked Vega down the aisle as she looked stunning in her gown. Vega’s mom, Gina Rue – a model was surely dresses to kill in an amazing mother of the bride dress.

In addition approximately 200 weddings were performed at one very popular wedding chapel in Las Vegas! A special occasion dress wholesaler could’ve had a field day by scheduling a Vegas Wholesale Special Occasion Dress Trunk Show next door! It’s hard to say how many mothers of the bride and mothers of the groom made the trip to the Vegas Strip…
