Small Business Saturday at Blake and Company NYC Special Occasion Dress Showroom

Wholesale Special Occasion DressesBlack Friday has come and gone… and so has Cyber Monday.  But another day also has come to pass – Small Business Saturday.  Small Business Saturday is the day after Black Friday and it is aimed at giving a boost to small businesses.  What do you mean you haven’t heard of Small Business Saturday?  Don’t worry – 2010 is the first Small Business Saturday ever!

Black Friday is really a way for big-box retailers to rack up the dollars with consumers.  Online sellers have Cyber Monday – but small businesses were left out of the loop.  Wholesale special occasion dress vendors need to get on board with promotions that may help them – and New York City is the first city in the country to endorse Small Business Saturday.  Hopefully, it will continue to grow in 2011.

New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg and American Express Chief Executive Kenneth Chenault launched Small Business Saturday as a way to get consumers to remember to support locally owned and independent businesses.

Special Occasion Dresses and Mother of the Bride Dresses Go Green!

environmentally-friendly-dressesGreen is among the latest trends at weddings – and I don’t mean the color green.  I am talking about the latest eco-friendly special occasion dresses and mother of the bride dresses.  Eco-friendly is in and the wholesale dress industry better take notice.  Not only are the dresses going green – but the wedding themes in general are becoming more environmentally-friendly.  Eco-conscious couples are turning towards donations towards charitable causes in lieu of wedding favors.  Free range chicken has made it onto the menu at recent weddings.  It only makes sense that special occasion dresses would follow suit.  It is a terrific idea for dress wholesalers to prepare themselves for the eco-conscious brides.  Special occasion dress wholesalers and mother of the bride dress wholesalers need to offer environmentally-friendly fabrics.  Some eco-friendly fabrics used to make special occasion dresses include organic cotton, silks, hemp and in extreme cases recycled newspaper.  (I still believe that the New Times is meant to read – not to wear as a special occasion dress.)

Special Occasion Dress Wholesaler Opportunity for 2011…

Celebrity Wedding Mother of the Bride DressesA previous Blake & Company blog reported that October 10th, 2010 would be a big wedding day – and it certainly was!  10-10-10 saw a huge rise in weddings as more than 33,000 couples registered for the date at the online wedding site The Knot.  That’s a whole lot of mother of the bride dresses, mother of the groom dresses and special occasion dresses.

On a typical Sunday, The Knot has about 5,000 weddings registered.  10-10-10 showed an increase of almost 600% in the number of mother of the bride dresses!

There were plenty of celebrities who chose 10-10-10 to seal their nuptials – Crystal Bowersox of American Idol fame married fellow musician Brian Walker.  Bowersox wore a eco-friendly organic, hemp and cotton dress.  I wonder if the mother of the bride dress was also eco-friendly?

Brothers & Sisters star Dave Annable and actress Odette Yustman were also married on the once in a millennium date.  Odette looked gorgeous in her gown (pictured above) as I’m sure the mother of the bride did as well.

Alexa Vega, star of the Spy Kids movies, exchanged vows with Sean Covel, Napoleon Dynamite producer.  Spy Kids Director Robert Rodriguez walked Vega down the aisle as she looked stunning in her gown.  Vega’s mom, Gina Rue – a model was surely dresses to kill in an amazing mother of the bride dress.

In addition approximately 200 weddings were performed at one very popular wedding chapel in Las Vegas!  A special occasion dress wholesaler could’ve had a field day by scheduling a Vegas Wholesale Special Occasion Dress Trunk Show next door!  It’s hard to say how many mothers of the bride and mothers of the groom made the trip to the Vegas Strip…
