Black Friday has come and gone… and so has Cyber Monday. But another day also has come to pass – Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday is the day after Black Friday and it is aimed at giving a boost to small businesses. What do you mean you haven’t heard of Small Business Saturday? Don’t worry – 2010 is the first Small Business Saturday ever!
Black Friday is really a way for big-box retailers to rack up the dollars with consumers. Online sellers have Cyber Monday – but small businesses were left out of the loop. Wholesale special occasion dress vendors need to get on board with promotions that may help them – and New York City is the first city in the country to endorse Small Business Saturday. Hopefully, it will continue to grow in 2011.
New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg and American Express Chief Executive Kenneth Chenault launched Small Business Saturday as a way to get consumers to remember to support locally owned and independent businesses.
Small businesses like Blake and Company and many other special occasion dress and mother of the bride dress wholesalers. Some economic strategists look to small businesses as a barometer of the larger economy. Small businesses can use a boost and that is the thought behind Small Business Saturday.
This year American Express gave $100 worth of Facebook advertising to 10,000 business owners who signed up for the Small Business Saturday program. Also, Amex gave $25 statement credits to 100,000 card members who registered their Amex cards and used them at a small business on Saturday, Nov. 27th 2010.
So, even though Small Business Saturday has come and gone doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t support small businesses all year round.
