Daymor Couture’s Mother of the Bride Dress for Blake and Company Featured in Brides.com Article

Daymor’s new mother of the bride dress for Blake and Company was featured in a recent Brides.com article.  Today’s brides are urged to reassure their moms that it is indeed possible to find stylish, non-matronly mother-of-the-bride dresses.  Daymor’s mother of the bride line for Blake and Company proves that mother of the bride dresses can fit almost any price range.  Brides.com was inspired by five real mothers of the brides to find mother of the bride dresses that suited their personal styles.

Daymor Mother of the Bride Dress 1033A mother of the bride with a goal of looking modern should consider slim, fluid lines, a sophisticated hue, and a unique neckline. However, to ensure that the mother of the bride dress is modern, an unusual silhouette, neckline, or sleeve treatment carries more weight than the color of the special occasion dress.

If the mother of the bride is looking for an elegant mother of the bride dress, a good suggestion is to go for a floor-length gown.  The color of the mother of the bride dress that was recommended by the Brides.com article was a dark chocolate hue.  Daymor’s taffeta dress style 1033 for Blake and Company was featured in the elegant mother of the bride dress section of the Brides.com article.

Mother of the brides who are searching for something glamorous would do well selecting a black silk satin mother of the bride dress. Swarovski crystal embellishments were also suggested to make the mother of the bride dress truly stand out as luxurious.  A strapless neckline and matching jacket may be just what the mother of the bride dress needs to achieve the glamorous look.

Mother of the Bride Dress Tips

Mother of the Bride DressMother of the bride dresses are a key component of the wedding to do list.  The mother of the bride has a very important role in the wedding. And as a mother of the bride, she wants to look her best for her daughter’s big day – after all – the mother of the bride generally gives the groom a glimpse into what he should expect his bride to look like in 30 years or so.  This is not the primary reason to reason to select a mother of the bride dress that is elegant – but it doesn’t hurt.

When should a mother of the bride start searching for a special occasion dress?

A mother of the bride should start her search for a special occasion dress at least six months prior to the wedding. This will allow the mother of the bride to take her time in selecting something that is a good match.  It is also important to give enough time for mother of the bride dress alterations.

Here are some important tips for women searching for mother of the bride dresses:

1. Mother of the bride dresses should not be white, cream colored or anything close to white.  It is important for the bride to stand out and to shine and a mother of the bride dress shouldn’t be close in color.

2. It is important for the mother of the bride to speak with the bride before selecting a mother of the bride dress.  This conversation about the mother of the bride dress will reduce potential conflict and stress.

3. If possible, it is also a good idea for the mother of the bride to coordinate with the mother of the groom.  A mother of the bride dress and mother of the groom dress that clash can be disastrous!  The mother of the bride dress and mother of the groom dress shouldn’t contrast too much or be too similar either.

Mother of the Bride Dress More Anticipated than Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress

While all of England and possibly the whole world wait for one of the most anticipated celebrity weddings of the year – new details have been released.  Kate Middleton has not announced who will design her bridal dress or the mother of the bride dress, but Palace officials have announced that Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams will preside over the April 29th, 2011 11:00am wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

While special occasion dresses for the bridal party have not been selected as of yet – it is known that the royal couple will travel from the wedding at Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace by carriage.  The festive wedding procession will take place as the carriage passes by several of London’s major landmarks.

The carriage route will go through Parliament Square, Whitehall, Horse Guards Parade and the Mall.  The route is likely to be packed with revelers and well-wishers hoping to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds.  Upon arrival at Buckingham Palace, the couple is expected to make a brief appearance on the balcony.

Once the couple greets the crowd from the balcony, next on the agenda is a star studded royal wedding reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, William’s grandmother.

The guest list will be an assortment of royals, celebrities, family and friends all dressed to impress in the latest special occasion dresses of the season.  One can only imagine how many honeysuckle special occasion dresses will be in attendance.

There will be a need for several special occasion dresses to be worn on that day because Prince Charles will also host a dinner and dance for his son William and his new bride that evening at Buckingham Palace. The couple’s closest friends and family will be invited and you can bet that not one of them will be caught dead wearing the same special occasion dress that they wore to the daytime wedding reception.  This is a chance for special occasion dress wholesalers to really rack up!

Further details are to be announced as the wedding date gets closer.

You can bet that the wedding dress and wedding dress designer that Kate Middleton selects will have an impact on the fashion world – specifically the special occasion dress industry.  Here at Blake and Company, all eyes will be focused on a dress that is more important than the wedding gown – the mother of the bride dress.

In the Special Occasion Dress Industry 3 Weddings are Better than 1: Just Ask Shania Twain!

Special Occasion Dresses NYCWe knew that 2011 would be a big year for celebrity weddings and special occasion dresses… and 2011 began on Saturday, January 1st with the first celebrity wedding of the year!  That’s right, Shania Twain got things started off on January 1st 2011 as the country star tied the knot with Swiss Nestle executive Frederic Thiebaud.  But it is doubtful that anyone was drinking hot chocolate as the wedding was held in sunny Puerto Rico (no passport was necessary).

Besides the wedding dress, the wedding had its share of quality special occasion dresses.  While there were just 40 of their closest family and friends, there were not too many special occasion dresses on hand – but the quality of those being worn by the guests in attendance must’ve been spectacular.

At Blake and Company’s New York City wholesale mother of the bride dress and special occasion dress showroom, we’re wondering if any of the guests opted to welcome 2011 with the first honeysuckle special occasion dress of the year.  One thing is for sure – Marie-Anne Thiebaud wasn’t dressed in a special occasion dress for the wedding.  In case you didn’t know, Marie-Anne Thiebaud is the ex-wife of Shania Twain’s new husband.  But, it gets even stranger than that – Marie-Anne Thiebaud was Twain’s long time assistant who had an affair with and later married Twain’s first husband, Robert Lange.

So, in an example of truth being stranger than fiction – in essence, the two couples switched partners.  Anyway you cut it, in the special occasion dress industry – this is good news – it means 3 weddings – and that means triple the special occasion dresses!

Mother of the Brides Celebrate in Style in 2010

As we look forward to 2011 and all of the celebrity weddings, mother of bride dresses and special occasion dresses, we also look back at 2010.  Of all the Mother of the Bride dresses in 2010, Hillary Clinton wore the most famous of all mother of the bride dresses of the year.  But, there were plenty other mother of the bride dresses out there in 2010.

Here are the top 10 celebrity weddings of 2010:

1. While Democrats and Republicans don’t always see eye to eye, everyone agrees that Hillary Clinton’s mother of the bride dress stole the show this year.  The Mother of the Bride, Clinton wore a gorgeous Italian gown with floral detailing by Oscar de la Renta.  The Mother of the Bride dress design was modern and unique in its shoulder coverage.  Hillary Clinton showed that a Mother of the Bride can be bold as she donned a bright raspberry colored mother of the bride dress.

2. Supermodel Coco Rocha’s wedding to interior designer James Conran must have brought out a plethora of special occasion dresses.  The guest list no doubt included a long list of beauties from Rocha’s modeling agency.  Her mother, Juanita, is a flight attendant and must have looked gorgeous in her mother of the bride dress.

3. Hilary Duff’s wedding to pro hockey player Mike Comrie was a huge event.  Her mom, Susan Colleen surely looked wonderful in her mother of the bride dress.  The event was reported packed with plenty of celebrities in extravagant special occasion dresses.

4. American Idol star and country singer Carrie Underwood also married a pro hockey player – Mike Fisher.  Carole Underwood, an elementary school teacher, most likely chose a traditional mother of the bride dress.

5. Siren Megan Fox’s wedding to 90210 star Brian Austin Green was super-low key.  The only witness at their beach wedding ceremony was Green’s 8 year old son from a previous marriage.  No word on whether or not the mother of the bride even made it to the wedding ceremony or not.  In fact, there were more security guards than guests at the reception so special occasion dresses were probably at a minimum.

6. Nicole Richie’s wedding to Joel Madden was an event complete with a live elephant.  One can only imagine what the mother of the bride dress looked like and how many amazing special occasion dresses were present.

7. “The Bachelor” Jason Mesnick wed winning contestant Molly Malaney – and the wedding was aired on television.  The mother of the bride dress was stunning and there were plenty of special occasion dresses on board for the gala event.

8. Grammy award winning artist Alicia Keys wedding to music producer Swizz Beatz was a site to be seen as the two tied the knot at a destination wedding in the Mediterranean.  No doubt the mother of the bride was decked out in a gorgeous mother of the bride dress.  Guests were outfitted in the latest style special occasion dresses of the season!

9. VH1 host La La Vazquez wedding to NBA pro Carmelo Anthony was aired on a special five-part VH1 series “La La’s Full Court Wedding”.  Mother of the bride was dresses in the latest fashions as were the dozens of guests wearing fashionable special occasion dresses.

10. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden’s bridal ensemble included a veil worn by her mother on her wedding day.  The royal wedding to Daniel Westling was aired on live television and featured a mother of the bride dress that was fit for a Queen – literally!  The number of special occasion dresses was too much to count.

2011 should be a huge year for celebrity weddings with Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton lined up to take honors of celebrity wedding of the year!

Special Occasion Dresses: Petite, Woman’s and Plus Sizes Explained

Special Occasion Dresses NYCIn a previous Blake and Company special occasion dress blog entry, the difference between junior size special occasion dresses and missy (misses) size special occasion dresses was explained.  The focus of this special occasion blog entry is the petite special occasion dress size, petite plus, explain the meaning of “woman’s size” and plus size special occasion dress size.

As New York City’s premier representative of Mother of the Bride and special occasion dress collections, Blake and Company carries a large selection of mother of the bride dresses and special occasion dresses in a variety of sizes.

Remember that when it comes to special occasion dresses – fit is everything.  It is important to select a special occasion dress size that is right for you, based first on the body shape that the clothes are designed to fit.

Petite Special Occasion Dresses
Petite special occasion dresses are cut for shorter body.  Women between 5ft to 5ft 4in are good candidates for the petite special occasion dress size.  To clarify, petite doesn’t mean thin.  The petite size special occasion dress only refers to height.  Petite size special occasion dresses can be junior cut in sizes from 1P to 13P or in misses sizes from 2P to 14P.  Special occasion dresses and mother of the bride dresses can also come in Petite plus, which is 16P to 26P.  Petite plus size special occasion dresses are for women who are both short and full figured.

Women’s Size Special Occasion Dresses
The term “women’s size” refers to a sizing method of the past.  Most clothing is sold in misses sizes.  However, if the size tag of a special occasion dress has a W, then it is a true “woman’s size”.  Women’s sizes are meant for more mature women and are often cut with more room to move.  Consequently, these styles tend to be mature, do not fit as closely to the body and are generally not as flattering.   Today’s over 50 women are generally still fashionable and want to wear more flattering special occasion dresses and mother of the bride dresses.  As a result, the true woman’s size and style ranges are becoming less favorable.

Plus Size Special Occasion Dresses
Plus size special occasion dresses and plus size mother of the bride dresses are cut for a full figured woman with a larger than D-cup bust size.   Plus size special occasion dresses cover dresses from sizes 16 to 28 or 16W to 28W.  Plus sizes are sized as 1X-5X.  The fundamental difference between plus size special occasion dresses and misses size is the extra room for bust sizes and armholes.  In addition, the hip area is wider and more accommodating.

On a final note, it is important to remember that sizes vary between special occasion dress designers.  The best advice is to ignore the dress size numbers and try your best to get the best fit.

Special Occasion Dress Sizes Explained: What is the Difference Between Junior and Missy?

Blake & Company is New York’s premier representative of Mother of the Bride and special occasion dress collections.  We carry a large selection of mother of the bride dresses and special occasion dresses in a variety of sizes.  The purpose of this particular wholesale special occasion dress blog entry is to clarify any questions you may have about sizes when it comes to special occasion dresses.

NYC Mother of the Bride DressesFirst, it is important to remember that when it comes to special occasion dresses – fit is everything.  To choose a special occasion dress size that is right for you, it is important to examine the body shape that the clothes are cut to fit.

Junior Size Special Occasion Dresses
Junior size special occasion dresses are cut to fit a body with fewer curves.  This size features a smaller bust and less definition between the waist and the hips. Junior special occasion dresses come in odd numbered sizes from 1 to 15.  Junior styles tend to be casual, trendy, and suitable more for school, casual going out, club and first-job wear.

Missy (Misses) Size Special Occasion Dresses
When it comes to special occasion dress sizes, it is important to remember that misses dress sizes are cut for a more developed figure with a few more curves than junior size special occasion dresses.  The difference is generally eight to ten inches between the waist and hips.  Misses size special occasion dresses come in even numbers, from 0 to 16.  Women out of their early teens and early twenties generally fit best in misses size special occasion dresses.

Ten Tips to Make Sure You Look Your Best in 2011

Special Occasion Dress and Mother of the Bride Dress Blog

Special Occasion Dresses WholesaleTen Tips to Make Sure You Look Your Best in 2011

Special occasion dress designers and mother of the bride dress designers all have the same goal – to create dresses that make women look their best.

Knowing that women have different body types and different taste makes this a difficult task.

These ten tips listed below will help women who want to look their best in 2011.

1. Special occasion dresses need to fit a woman’s body.  Mother of the bride dresses that are oversized or tight fitting are not a wise choice.  It is essential to wear a special occasion dress that is a perfect fit.

2. When it comes to accessories – don’t overdo it.  Accessories are best when they compliment the special occasion dress – not overshadow the dress.  Mother of the bride dresses worn with a simple sterling silver necklace may not be flashy – but is more likely to make the special occasion dress stand out.

3. Comfort is important.  Women should not go out of their comfort zones.  It is best to wear a special occasion dress that you feel reflects your style.  The most trendy special occasion dress may be stunning, but if the person wearing it doesn’t feel comfortable, the results will be disappointing.

4. Belts – to wear a belt or to not wear a belt?  Wearing a belt depends on one thing and one thing only – women with thin waists should wear a belt with their special occasion dress.  Women without thin waists should not wear belts as it will make them look even larger.

5. Scarves and shawls are in!  A scarf or shawl can add a touch of elegance to a special occasion dress.  It is important to keep the accessory simple as not to outshine the special occasion dress.

6. Accessorize your special occasion dress with shoes, bags, watches, belts, jewelry and scarves.  A special occasion dress can really pop if accessorized properly.

7. When it comes to special occasion dresses – women should put their necks on the line.  Women with short necks should not wear a special occasion dress with a high collared neck.  Longer necklines are ideal for women with longer necks.

8. Thin women can wear shorter cut special occasion dresses than those who have wider waists.  Women with wide waist lines should opt for longer hemlines when it comes to special occasion dresses.

9. Special occasion dresses shouldn’t be too short or too long.  It is important to have your special occasion dress professionally tailored to fit your specific body measurements.

10. When it comes to special occasion dresses, light colored tops and dark colored bottoms are best for women with larger lower bodies.  Women with larger upper bodies are wise to choose special occasion dresses that feature tops that are simple and clean with soft, flowing fabrics.
